My Volkswagens

I've had a love for Volkswagens since I bought my first one in 2006. Ok, maybe it was before that and started with the 1970s Beetle that my dad had. That thing had holes in the floorboard and blew hot air into the interior all year long, yet it was extremely fun to drive.

Creature comforts have improved since that old Beetle, but one things remains true about Volkswagens - they are 'a pleasure to drive' or farvegnugen among VW enthusiasts. Here are some photos of my collection of German engineered VWs.

2004 Jetta TDI

I'd been looking for one of these for quite some time and found this beauty on Craigslist from a single owner seller for what I considered a great deal. It has black leather interior, heated seats, 5 speed transmission, a premium Monsoon sound system, sunroof, cruise, premium rims, and gets the best mpg of any car I've owned. I routinely get 38-50 mpg with this car, depending on driving conditions. Being a diesel doesn't mean sluggish, I can lay down rubber with this car!

1999 Passat 1.8T Wagon

This was the first VW I purchased. I put so many highway miles on this car, mostly while Anna and I were dating, and it got around 28-33mpg routinely. I replaced the sound system with a Pioneer and left the factory speakers in, which resulted in LOTS of increased bass sound. This is a great car for hauling lots of stuff in the back, or people, yet it still feels like you're driving a compact car - it handles extremely well and is very comfortable on long trips. It has the TipTronic transmission, so it can be driving in automatic or manual mode, sunroof, premium fabric interior, cruise, everything inside is automatic.
